Who We Are

 

OUR MISSION:

Our Mission is to provide adults with disabilities the confidence and tools to lead an independent lifestyle, through basic life skills training. Our principal objectives are reflected in everything that we do, which is to contribute to the enrichment of the quality of lives for people who have recently become or currently are disabled.


WHO WE SERVE:

Adults age 18+ with a disability who with training will be able to live independently with or without assisstance (i.e. supportive housing)


OUR VISION:

Independent living is the right of people with disabilities to control and direct their own lives, to have choices and options and to actively participate in all aspects of society. The Vision of CLC is to work smarter and in new ways to promote equal opportunity for disabled persons. Through prudent investing in policies, programs and practices, clients can benefit and reach their ultimate potential; with the key hope of having the ability to fully participate in the community.


OUR PROGRAM:

Is to be a program where Adults (Ages 18+) with disabilities are able to learn basic life skills such as:

  Cooking Cleaning
  Money/Shopping/Banking Social skills (relationships)
  Housing Connecting with partners in the community
  Computer skills  Literacy
  Numeracy  


CONNECT 2 WORK:

This is a work readiness program that will provide our clients with skills training that will help them get ready for employment, and then we will connect them with the appropriate employment program.


COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

This is where we have different members from the community come into the centre to talk about other community programs and services. They will run workshops and seminars at CLC so that our clients can experience it in a safe environment, and if this is something they enjoy or want to learn more about they can continue to access it on their own. Examples of this are exercise programs, meditation, recreation and social activities.


CONNECT 4 REAL

This is a workshop series for our clients dealing with topics that they may encounter to help prepare them on how to cope with them, and strategies for them to use. These include topics such as self-esteem, anger management, dealing with emotions As we head into the new school year we are looking forward to growing and providing our clients with many new learning experiences beginning with this issue of CLC Vibes many of the articles and exert have been written by our clients.
